Selangor Red Giants Are Five and Zero After Three Weeks of MPL Malaysia and RRQ Tora Have Not Won a Series
The Red Giants beat AC Esports 2-0 on 29 August to stay unbeaten. RRQ Tora lost 1-2 to the same opponent a day later and are the only winless team in the league.
Selangor Red Giants finished the third week of MPL Malaysia Season 18 as the only unbeaten team in the league, at five wins and no losses, after a 2-0 win over AC Esports at the MPL MY Arena in Kuala Lumpur on 29 August.
Their five series wins have come against Invictus Gaming, Team Rey, Bigetron MY, Team Flash and AC Esports, which is most of the league. Team Vamos are second at 4-1 and Team Rey third at 4-2. Invictus Gaming are 3-2 and Bigetron MY by VIT 3-3. AC Esports and Team Flash are both 1-4.
RRQ Tora are 0-5. They lost 2-1 to Team Vamos on 28 August and 2-1 to AC Esports on 30 August, the second of those to a side that had won once all season. Twenty-one series have been played.
The other week three results were Bigetron MY 1-2 Team Rey, Team Flash 0-2 Team Rey and Invictus Gaming 0-2 Team Flash.
The season began on 14 August and runs to 18 October at the MPL MY Arena on level six of the Quill City Mall Convention Centre. This is the first year of MPL Malaysia's closed franchise system, with eight partner teams and no relegation, so a 0-5 start costs a team its season rather than its place in the league.
What is at stake is Istanbul. The top two finishers represent Malaysia at the M8 World Championship, the M Series' first edition in Europe. There is a second route through the new MLBB Championship Tour Southeast Asia, open to the leading side from the MLBB Academy League Malaysia, which gives the region an additional entry that does not depend on MPL placement.
The league pauses from 21 September to 4 October for the Asian Games in Japan, where Malaysia has also qualified in Mobile Legends. Week four resumes on Thursday and Friday, with Selangor Red Giants against RRQ Tora and Team Rey against Invictus Gaming.
