JDT thrash Svay Rieng 6-0 to open Shopee Cup Group B as Daniesh Amirruddin bags late double

Johor Darul Ta'zim began their 2026/27 ASEAN Club Championship campaign with a 6-0 rout of Cambodia's PKR Svay Rieng in Iskandar Puteri.

Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) opened their 2026/27 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup campaign in emphatic fashion on Thursday night, hammering Cambodian side PKR Svay Rieng 6-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri. Six different moments of quality from five scorers turned a cagey first half-hour into a one-sided Group B opener, and the Malaysian champions now sit on top of the early standings on goal difference.

A slow start, then a flood

Svay Rieng frustrated the Southern Tigers for much of the first half. Jairo da Silva rattled the crossbar inside the opening ten minutes, and Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi could not convert the rebound. Visiting goalkeeper Dara Vireak then made a fine stop to deny a long-range effort shortly before the breakthrough.

That breakthrough came in the 39th minute, when Arif Aiman drove a powerful shot past Vireak from outside the area after being set up by Marcos Guilherme. The Brazilian then added the second himself six minutes after the restart, finishing a pass from Jairo.

Once the second goal went in, the contest was effectively over. Defender Kevin Medina headed in the third just after the hour, and Iranian striker Shahab Zahedi made it four in the 70th minute. Substitute Daniesh Amirruddin rounded off the night with two goals in the final 12 minutes, according to the ASEAN Football Federation's official match report.

Svay Rieng barely tested Syihan

The Cambodian side's best moment came in the 64th minute, when striker Martins Junior forced a save from JDT goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi. Beyond that, Xisco Muñoz's side controlled possession and territory, and the clean sheet was rarely under threat.

Marcos Guilherme was named the Shopee Star of the Match for his goal and assist. Speaking afterwards, he said: "I'm very happy as we played well in front of our fans."

How the rest of Group B started

The opening round in Group B also produced two away wins. Indonesia's Persib Bandung came from behind to beat Port FC 3-1 at Thammasat Stadium, scoring three times from the 87th minute onwards after Jude Soonsup-Bell's penalty had put the Thai side ahead. In Singapore, Vietnam's Cong An Ha Noi won 1-0 against Lion City Sailors at Jalan Besar Stadium through a Leo Artur goal in first-half stoppage time.

Myanmar's Shan United complete the group. With Persib and Cong An Ha Noi also starting with victories, JDT's big goal difference could matter later in the group stage.

Fellow Malaysian side Kuching City had already opened their own campaign with a 2-2 draw against Tampines Rovers earlier in the competition.

What comes next for JDT

JDT's next Shopee Cup match is a demanding trip to Hanoi. They face Cong An Ha Noi at Hang Day Stadium on Thursday, 19 November, with kick-off at 7.30pm local time (8.30pm in Malaysia). On the same night, Svay Rieng host Port FC in Phnom Penh, and Persib welcome Shan United in Bandung.

For JDT, who have dominated domestic football for more than a decade, the regional club title is one of the few trophies that would add something genuinely new to their collection. A visit to Vietnam's form side will give a clearer read on their chances than Thursday's rout.
