Team Falcons Lead the Esports World Cup Club Championship by 300 Points With $27 Million Settled on August 23
The first Esports World Cup staged outside Saudi Arabia closes in Paris on 23 August. Falcons sit on 4,400 points to AG.AL International's 4,100, with $7 million going to the club that finishes on top.
The Esports World Cup has been running since 2 July and finishes in Paris on 23 August. What is still undecided is the part that pays the most: the Club Championship, where $27 million is shared among the top 24 organisations and $7 million goes to the winner alone.
The standings going into the last weekend
Team Falcons lead on 4,400 points. AG.AL International sit second on 4,100. Natus Vincere are third on 2,450, far enough back that the title is a two-club race.
Three hundred points is one good final. A tournament win in most titles is worth 1,000 points, second place fewer, and the scale runs down to 200 for an eighth-place finish. Battle royale events use a wider spread, from 1,000 at the top down to 50. Nothing is settled.
How a club actually wins it
The rules are stricter than a simple points total. A club needs at least two top-eight finishes in different tournaments to be eligible at all, and it must have won at least one tournament outright to take the Club Championship. Points alone, spread thinly across many events, are not enough — you have to have actually won something.
Falcons have. Their Rocket League title in Paris was one of the results that pushed them back into the lead earlier this month.
What is left to play for
The closing block has been dense. PUBG Mobile World Cup ran 11 to 16 August, chess 11 to 15 August and Rocket League 12 to 16 August with a $1 million pool. Counter-Strike 2 played its group stage 12 to 16 August and its playoffs from 19 to 22 August. The Fortnite Reload Elite Series Championship, a new addition, runs 19 to 22 August with 40 duos and $1 million.
CS2 is the heaviest remaining swing. A club with a deep Counter-Strike roster still has a four-figure points haul available in the last four days.
Paris instead of Riyadh
This is the first Esports World Cup held outside Saudi Arabia. The move to Paris was the year's most-discussed structural change in esports, and it has worked on the numbers that matter to the event: a European time zone put the marquee finals in prime time for the game's largest broadcast audiences rather than in the middle of their night.
