MVK Esports sweep FURIA 3-0 at Worlds 2026 Play-In as Karmine Corp beat Cloud9 3-2 in Los Angeles

Vietnam's MVK Esports made a dream start to the 2026 League of Legends World Championship, sweeping Brazil's FURIA 3-0 on the opening day of the Play-In stage at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles. In the other opening series, Karmine Corp came from behind to beat Cloud9 3-2, setting up a meeting between the two winners in the Play-In upper bracket final.

Both series were played on Thursday 15 October in Los Angeles. In Malaysia, MVK and FURIA started at 2am on Friday 16 October, with Karmine Corp and Cloud9 following from 7am.

MVK take control after a scrappy opener

The opening game was the closest of the three. FURIA struck first in the top lane, where Guigo's Jax took down Kratos on Olaf, and the Brazilians later forced their way to the first Baron. MVK held on, took the second Baron themselves and picked off FURIA's marksman Ayu before marching to the Nexus, even though FURIA had secured the Dragon Soul.

Game two was played at a much higher tempo. MVK forced skirmishes and tower dives from the early minutes, and although FURIA looked tidier in their rotations, the Vietnamese side kept winning the fights that mattered. Kratos, on Zaahen, opened game three with a solo kill in the top lane, MVK won a lopsided bottom-lane brawl involving both junglers, and the series was over in about 27 minutes.

Jungler Gury was singled out by several outlets as MVK's standout player. The team, the LCP's third seed, is coached by Vietnamese veteran SofM.

Karmine Corp survive Cloud9 in five

Cloud9 looked in control early, winning the first game 20-1 and leading the series 2-1, with Blaber prominent in the jungle. Karmine Corp, the LEC's third seed, refused to go away. They took game four to force a decider and then closed out game five, with bottom laner Caliste delivering in the final two games.

The result sends Cloud9 into the lower bracket, alongside FURIA.

How the rest of the Play-In works

Only one of the four teams will reach the main event. The Play-In is a double-elimination bracket of best-of-five series, running from 15 to 18 October in Los Angeles.

Next up, Cloud9 and FURIA meet in a lower-bracket elimination match, and the loser becomes the first team knocked out of Worlds 2026. Karmine Corp and MVK play in the upper final, the two teams' first meeting this season. Those matches are scheduled for Friday 16 October in Los Angeles, which falls on Saturday 17 October in Malaysia.

The upper-final loser drops into the lower final against the survivor of Cloud9 and FURIA. The Play-In final is set for 18 October in Los Angeles, and its winner takes the last spot in the 16-team Swiss Stage. The team reaching the final from the upper bracket gets the right to choose its side and draft order for game one.

Swiss Stage next

The Swiss Stage begins on 23 October at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, with the first matches at 10am Pacific time, which is 1am on Saturday 24 October in Malaysia. Fifteen of the 16 places there are already filled.

For Southeast Asian fans, MVK's run is the main story to follow. A win over Karmine Corp would send them straight to the Play-In final, while a defeat would still leave them a second chance in the lower final.
