The competition around the cricket
The 2026 season ran from 21 July to 16 August, with eight men's and eight women's teams and sixty-eight matches. The eliminator was at the Oval on 14 August and the final at Lord's on 16 August.
The commercial layer is now the bigger story. The ECB completed ownership deals in late 2025 that valued the eight teams at more than 975 million pounds. A consortium of Silicon Valley technology figures, including executives from Google and Microsoft, bought London Spirit for 145 million. IPL franchise owners took stakes in several others. Two teams were renamed: Oval Invincibles became MI London and Northern Superchargers became Sunrisers Leeds.
Men's squads carry a salary cap of 2.05 million pounds for sixteen to eighteen players; women's squads 880,000 pounds for fifteen.
