Shin Ohashi and Dong Zhihao Tied for Gold in the Asian Games Men's One Hundred Metre Breaststroke in Tokyo
Olympic medallist and world record holder Qin Haiyang, the defending champion, took bronze in fifty nine point zero one seconds, well outside his best.
Japan's Shin Ohashi and China's Dong Zhihao shared the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on 21 September 2026, touching the wall together in 58.64 seconds.
The tie meant no silver medal was awarded. China's Qin Haiyang, the 2023 champion and Games record holder with 57.76, took bronze in 59.01. Kyrgyzstan's Denis Petrashov finished fourth in 59.39.
Ohashi, 17, turned first in 27.56, ahead of Dong's 27.74, but Dong, the 2024 world champion over 200m breaststroke, came home in 30.90 to draw level at the finish.
Ohashi, the world junior record holder, was 0.10 seconds outside the 58.54 he swam earlier in 2026 at the Pan Pacific Championships, a time that is also the Japanese national record. Dong's winning time was just outside his career best of 58.57, set in June 2026.
Other finals on the second night saw South Korea's Kim Youngbeom win the men's 50m freestyle in an Asian Games record of 21.66 and Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey retain her 200m freestyle title in 1:54.96.
Pool swimming at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre continues until 25 September.
