MotoGP Heads to MotorLand Aragon on August 28 With Jorge Martin 31 Points Clear
Round 13 of 22 lands in Spain after Raul Fernandez's maiden premier-class win at Silverstone, with three Aprilia riders inside the championship top six and reigning champion Marc Marquez 40 points adrift.
The 2026 MotoGP season picks back up at MotorLand Aragon from 28 to 30 August, and for once the paddock arrives in Spain with Ducati chasing rather than defending. Jorge Martin heads the championship on 240 points after 12 of 22 rounds, and the three riders closest to him are not the names most people pencilled in back in March.
Aprilia arrive holding the whip hand
Martin leads Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi by 31 points. Behind them, Ai Ogura on the Trackhouse Aprilia sits third on 203, and Raul Fernandez — Ogura's team-mate — is sixth on 184 after taking his first premier-class Grand Prix victory at Silverstone. Four of the top six riders in the standings are on Aprilia machinery going into round 13.
The Silverstone shake-up
Silverstone was the weekend that reset the picture. Raul Fernandez converted a long-promised turn of pace into a maiden win, while Ogura crashed out of contention in what was described as his first real mistake of the season, dropping him from second to third. Martin finished on the podium and stretched his advantage from a handful of points to 31.
Reigning champion Marc Marquez sits fourth on 200 after a tyre-management weekend that never came to him, 40 points off the top with 10 rounds still to run.

Positions four to six are covered by 16 points. On a circuit where a single wet session can rearrange a Sunday, that is a genuinely live fight.
What MotorLand asks of a bike
Aragon is a 5.077 km lap with 17 corners, weighted heavily toward left-handers and finished off by a long back straight into a hard stop. That combination punishes two things in particular: a chassis that will not hold a line on the left shoulder of the front tyre, and a rider who cannot protect the tyre through the flowing middle sector while still having something left for the final braking zone.
It is also a circuit the Spanish riders know intimately from testing, which historically narrows the gap between the factory bikes and the satellite teams.
Nine rounds after this one
Aragon is round 13 of 22. Even a 31-point lead is only just over one race weekend's maximum haul once sprint points are counted, and the second half of the calendar has traditionally been where title fights are decided rather than declared. Martin's task from here is less about winning and more about being on the podium every Sunday.
