South Korea's Sepak Takraw Squads Flew to Japan Chasing a First Asian Games Gold in Twenty Four Years
The teams left Incheon on Thursday entered in four events, with the men's and women's team competitions opening the day after the Games begin.
South Korea's men's and women's sepak takraw squads left Incheon International Airport on 17 September 2026 for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they will try to end a 24 year wait for a gold medal in the sport.
Korea last won sepak takraw gold at the 2002 Busan Asian Games, in the men's circle event, and has not finished on top of the podium in the sport since.
The teams are entered in four events: the men's team event, the men's quad, the women's team event and the women's double.
Men's national coach Kim Jong-heun said the squad would do its best to play with unwavering focus until the end, based on the tactics and teamwork the players had prepared. Kwak Seong-ho coaches the women's team.
The men's and women's team events begin on 20 September, the day after the Games open. Malaysia, silver medallists in both men's regu and men's team regu at Hangzhou in 2022, are among the favourites; Malaysian Sepak Takraw Federation president Mohd Sumali Reduan has said he hopes the sport delivers at least one gold for his country, with two a bonus.
