Where it came from
Steve and Paul Williams founded the PFC in 2021, with Steve as chief executive. Paul had the idea during the pandemic. The first championship was held on 29 January 2022 in Florida with twenty-four competitors, sixteen men and eight women, in a bracket. Istela Nunes won the women's title. Hauley Tillman won the men's, beating the former UFC fighter Marcus Brimage.
Steve Williams has been direct about the pitch: "the only difference between our fights and MMA fights is that nobody gets hurt."
Broadcast and reach
Events have aired on ESPN8: The Ocho, on YouTube, on DAZN and on Brazilian television, with a new television deal signed in November 2024. The organisation says its Ocho appearances have rated highest among that block's offerings. It has staged events at Disney's Wide World of Sports, in Paris, and at the Arnold Sports Festival, and a sanctioned international event, the Wogbejeke Pillow Fighting Championship, was held in Ghana in 2023.

This is a well-executed piece of sports entertainment with a genuine equipment engineering story behind it, a real fight structure and a broadcast footprint. It is not yet a sanctioned combat sport with a governing body, ranked divisions and a published rulebook of the kind that supports a competitive market.
