Three Clubs Are Level on Six Points After Two Matchweeks and One of Them Is Hull City

Two matchweeks into the 2026-27 Premier League season, the table has a shape nobody drew in July.

Manchester City are top on six points after beating Crystal Palace 4-1 away on 28 August. Level with them are Chelsea, who won a 4-3 game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, and Hull City, who have quietly won both of their opening fixtures — the second a 1-0 at Coventry City.

Saturday was the round's loudest day. Alongside Chelsea's seven-goal afternoon, Manchester United put five past Ipswich Town in a 5-2 win, Sunderland edged Fulham 1-0, and Leeds United and Brentford drew 1-1. Friday's card had produced a 2-2 between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, a 1-1 at Bournemouth against Everton, and a 2-0 win for Newcastle United at Tottenham Hotspur.

That leaves Brentford, Newcastle and Everton on four points, all unbeaten but with a draw each, and a chasing group that has had two games to work out what it is.

The round is not finished. Aston Villa host Arsenal at Villa Park on Monday 31 August with a 21:00 kick-off. Arsenal are the defending champions, and a win would move them level with the three clubs on six. A defeat would leave the title holders with a single point from two matches and the sort of early-season noise that tends to follow.

Two caveats are worth stating plainly. First, two matchweeks is not evidence of anything; Hull City sitting joint-top is a fixture-list artefact more than a forecast.
