Nkunku hat-trick as Leipzig hit Frankfurt for six while Neuer error helps Augsburg hold Bayern 2-2
Christopher Nkunku scored three in RB Leipzig's 6-0 win over Frankfurt, Bayern were held 2-2 at Augsburg and Patrik Schick kept up his scoring run for Leverkusen.
Christopher Nkunku scored a first-half hat-trick as RB Leipzig thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 6-0 on Saturday 10 October, the standout result of Bundesliga matchday 5. Earlier in the day Bayern Munich dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Augsburg after Manuel Neuer's error in the first minute, while Bayer Leverkusen held on to win 4-3 at Mainz.
Leipzig 6-0 Frankfurt: Nkunku runs riot
Leipzig went ahead in the first minute through Ezechiel Banzuzi, and Nkunku made it 2-0 four minutes later. The Frenchman added two more goals in the space of three minutes just before half-time, in the 41st and 44th minutes, to make it 4-0 at the break.
Antonio Nusa scored a fifth in the 54th minute and Tidiam Gomis finished the scoring a minute from time. Leipzig started the round on six points from four games. The win takes them to nine and up to fifth.
Augsburg 2-2 Bayern: 30 shots, one point
Bayern conceded inside the first minute at the WWK Arena. Neuer was caught out and Raphael Fellhauer scored one of the quickest goals in Bundesliga history. Ismael Saibari equalised in the 55th minute from a Harry Kane pass. Ricardo Ribeiro restored Augsburg's lead against the run of play before Kane set up Nathaniel Brown for a second equaliser in the 80th minute.
Vincent Kompany's side dominated the ball and had around 30 shots. They also hit the woodwork, and the club said four Bayern goals were ruled out for offside. Kompany called the afternoon "an emotional rollercoaster" and said his team's own mistakes led to both Augsburg goals. Bayern now have 11 points from five games, two behind leaders Borussia Dortmund, who drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen on Friday.
Mainz 3-4 Leverkusen: Schick joins exclusive club
Leverkusen led 2-0 inside 10 minutes through Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick, but two goals from Caci brought Mainz level by half-time. Jarell Quansah headed Leverkusen back in front in the 55th minute and Moussa Diaby made it 4-2 ten minutes later. Hollerbach's stoppage-time goal for Mainz came too late.
Schick has now scored in each of Leverkusen's first five Bundesliga games this season. Only Dimitar Berbatov (2005-06) and Stefan Kiessling (2009-10) had done that for the club before. The win moved Leverkusen up to fourth on 10 points.
