MPL MY Season 18: SRG edge Team Rey 4-3 in seven-game final to win sixth straight Malaysian title

Selangor Red Giants are still the team to beat in Malaysian Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. SRG defeated Team Rey 4-3 in the MPL Malaysia Season 18 grand final at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara, on Sunday 1 November, winning the deciding seventh game to claim a sixth consecutive league title. It was the closest final of their run, and Team Rey pushed them all the way.

A final that went the distance

The best-of-seven series followed a simple pattern: SRG won every odd-numbered game and Team Rey answered every time. SRG took Game 1, Rey levelled at 1-1, SRG went ahead again in Game 3 and Rey made it 2-2 in Game 4. SRG won Game 5, Rey forced a decider by taking Game 6, and the champions only pulled clear in Game 7.

Indonesian outlet Esports.ID pointed out that SRG had usually closed out finals 4-2 during their dominant spell, so a full seven-game series was a new kind of test for them. SRG had also beaten Team Rey in the upper-bracket final earlier in the playoffs, which meant Rey reached the grand final through the lower bracket.

Team Rey's run through the lower bracket

Team Rey earned their rematch the hard way. After losing to SRG in the upper bracket, they beat Team Vamos 4-2 in the lower-bracket final to book their place in the decider and, with it, a ticket to the M8 World Championship.

Rey's roster includes two Indonesian imports, jungler Muhammad Aditya Irawan "DolyNN" and gold laner Ervino Clice Sutanto "Cliveee", and the team is coached by Indonesian SaintdeLucaz. They looked the stronger side for long stretches of Sunday's final and were the first team in this run of six titles to take SRG to a seventh game.

What the coach said

SRG head coach Michael Angelo "Arcadia" Bocado told Bernama that he was very happy with the win. He credited Team Rey with raising their level and said his team had not faced such an intense series for some time. Speaking to RTM, he also praised his players for not losing heart after each defeat in the series.

Next stop: M8 in Istanbul

Both finalists have qualified for the M8 World Championship, which moves to Istanbul, Türkiye, in January 2027. It is the first time the M-series world championship will be held in Europe. MPL Malaysia has two direct Main Stage places at M8, the same number as MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines.

SRG and Team Rey join Philippine qualifiers Aurora Gaming PH and Team Falcons PH. MPL Indonesia decides its two M8 places at the Season 18 playoffs in Surabaya, which start on Wednesday 4 November and end with a best-of-seven grand final on Sunday 8 November.

For Malaysian fans, the M8 dates will matter. Moonton has scheduled the knockout stage for 14-19 January 2027 at the ESA Espor Arena in Istanbul, with the grand finals at Ora Arena. Türkiye is five hours behind Malaysia, so evening matches there will run late into the night in Kuala Lumpur.
