Fresh from their French Open final, Pang Ron-Pei Jing headline four Malaysian doubles pairs at the Hylo Open, with first-round matches from about 8.45pm Malaysia time.

Malaysia's badminton players go straight from Paris to Saarbrücken this week as the Hylo Open begins on Tuesday, 27 October. Mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing, runners-up at the French Open on Sunday, lead four Malaysian doubles combinations in the draw, and Malaysia's campaign opens with the men's and women's doubles first round from 1.45pm local time, or 8.45pm in Malaysia.

The tournament and the schedule

The Hylo Open is a Super 500 event on the BWF World Tour, played at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken, Germany, from 27 October to 1 November. Germany switched back to winter time on 25 October, so the venue is now seven hours behind Malaysia.

According to the organisers' provisional schedule, Tuesday starts with qualifying at 8.30am local time (3.30pm in Malaysia) before the men's and women's doubles first round from 1.45pm (8.45pm). Singles and mixed doubles first-round matches follow on Wednesday from 9am local (4pm Malaysia time). The last 16 is on Thursday, the quarter-finals on Friday, the semi-finals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday from 2pm local, which is 9pm in Malaysia. Organisers set the order of play a day in advance and warn that timings can shift.

Pang Ron-Pei Jing look to bounce back

Hoo and Lai reached the French Open final, a Super 750, and made history as the first Malaysian mixed pair to get that far in Paris. They were well beaten in Sunday's final, losing 10-21, 13-21 to China's top seeds and defending champions Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping.

In Saarbrücken they face a qualifier in the first round on Wednesday, according to the draw published by the BWF. Seventh seeds Chan Yin Chak-Ng Tsz Yau of Hong Kong sit in the same section, while France's Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue are seeded second and Denmark's Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Bøje are top seeds.

Three more Malaysian doubles pairs

In men's doubles, Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King open against German pair Malik Bourakkadi-Kenneth Neumann. Tai and Roy King reached the Arctic Open semi-finals earlier this month and are in the same quarter as Indonesia's top seeds, Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

Chia Weijie-Teo Ee Yi have the toughest opening assignment, against England's second seeds Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.

In women's doubles, Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting meet England's Abbygael Harris-Estelle Van Leeuwen in the first round. Chinese Taipei's Hsu Yin-Hui-Lin Jhih Yun are the top seeds.

French Open men's doubles champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and women's doubles finalists Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah are not in the Saarbrücken draw. Pearly-Thinaah's next scheduled event is the Japan Masters in Kumamoto from 10 to 15 November.
