Faris Ramli Equalised but Tampines Rovers Lost Two One at Shanghai Shenhua in Their Continental Opener
Yang Shuai headed in from close range just after the hour to settle a Group G tie that the Singapore club felt they deserved something from.
Tampines Rovers lost 2-1 away to Shanghai Shenhua on 17 September 2026 in their opening Group G match of the AFC Champions League Two.
Xu Haoyang put the Chinese side ahead in the 19th minute before Faris Ramli levelled for the Singapore Premier League club in the 33rd. Yang Shuai headed in from close range in the 62nd minute to give Vladan Milojevic's team all three points.
Tampines coach Nazri Nasir said his side had travelled to China intending to win and to play their own style of football, but that lapses in concentration cost them, particularly at the second goal, which came from a free kick.
Nasir said his players had given everything and that it was a great pity they did not take anything from the match. He added that Tampines pushed more players forward in the closing 15 minutes without finding a second equaliser.
In the other Group G fixture on the same night, Japan's FC Machida Zelvia beat Cambodia's Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng 2-0 through Mitchell Duke and Tete Yengi. Tampines had opened their domestic season on 11 September 2026 with a 2-0 win over Balestier Khalsa.
