Luca Innocenzi Took a Fifteenth Palio at Foligno by Lancing Three Shrinking Rings From a Galloping Horse
A rival missed the last ring and Innocenzi took all three to win the Giostra della Rivincita in two minutes forty point five eight seconds.
Luca Innocenzi won the Giostra della Rivincita at the Campo de li Giochi in Foligno in Umbria on 13 September 2026, riding Shekerando for Rione Cassero in 2 minutes 40.58 seconds.
Marco Diafaldi of Contrastanga was second in 2 minutes 43.32 and Tommaso Suadoni of Pugilli third in 2 minutes 44.74. The race turned on the final ring. Lorenzo Melosso of Croce Bianca was in contention but missed the third ring, and Innocenzi then took all three and raised his lance to the sky while still mounted.
The Quintana is contested by ten rioni. A rider gallops a figure-of-eight course and lances rings of decreasing diameter held out by a wooden statue known as the Quintana, with both time and accuracy counting and penalties for missed rings.
It was Innocenzi's fifteenth Palio and the twentieth for Cassero. He had also won the Giostra della Sfida earlier in 2026, completing what the town calls the cappotto, both jousts in a single year.
The year marked the eightieth anniversary of the modern Quintana, restarted in 1946 after wartime destruction. The anniversary banner was designed by the artist Mimmo Paladino on a theme of peace, and the Quintana was written into Umbria's regional cultural heritage law as intangible patrimony in 2026. Just under a quarter of online ticket sales came from outside Italy, and the organisers provided sign-language interpretation at the campo and subtitled broadcasts of the procession and the joust.
