Norris Wins a Red-Flagged Dutch Grand Prix as Verstappen Crashes Out on Lap One at Zandvoort
Antonelli and Russell completed a Mercedes double podium and the teenager now leads the drivers' championship by 59 points. Six cars failed to finish and three drivers took 10-second penalties.
Lando Norris converted pole into victory at Zandvoort on 23 August, but the story of the race was settled inside a lap. Max Verstappen crashed heavily into the main-straight wall at the end of lap one in slippery conditions at his home grand prix, bringing out the red flag. He reported no injury.
The finishing order
Norris won the 72-lap race ahead of Kimi Antonelli at +11.536s and George Russell at +15.906s, with Lewis Hamilton fourth and Charles Leclerc fifth. Antonelli was moved ahead of Russell late on through Mercedes team orders.
Leclerc took the fastest lap on lap 60 with a 1:14.230, ahead of Piastri and Norris.
It was an attritional afternoon. Six cars retired - Verstappen, Alex Albon, Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman - and three 10-second penalties were issued, to Liam Lawson for a yellow-flag infringement, to Franco Colapinto, and to Carlos Sainz for causing a collision.
The championship after Zandvoort
Antonelli leads on 242 points. Russell and Hamilton are level on 183, with Russell holding second on countback, Norris fourth on 159 and Leclerc fifth on 155. Verstappen is sixth on 112 and Oscar Piastri seventh on 104.
The gap at the top is now 59 points, and its shape matters as much as its size: Antonelli's nearest challengers are his own team-mate and a Ferrari driver on identical points, which splits the chase rather than concentrating it.

What comes next
The season resumes at Monza on 4-6 September, then Spain on 11-13 September and Azerbaijan on 24-26 September. Monza's low-drag layout is a different test entirely from Zandvoort's banking, and it is the first real read on whether the Mercedes advantage is circuit-specific or structural.
