Chrigor Moraes double as Selangor beat Penang 3-1 for fifth straight win, level on points with JDT
Selangor beat Penang 3-1 at the MBPJ Stadium to go level on 15 points with leaders JDT. Melaka edged KL City 3-2 and Negeri Sembilan drew 1-1 with Sabah.
Selangor FC made it five wins out of five in the Super League with a 3-1 win over Penang FC at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya on Saturday, 17 October. Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes scored twice and Ahmad Zikri Khalili added a late third. The Red Giants now have 15 points, the same as leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim. JDT stay top on goal difference and play Terengganu on Sunday. In Saturday's other games, Melaka FC came from behind late on to beat Kuala Lumpur City 3-2, and Negeri Sembilan drew 1-1 with Sabah FC.
Moraes does the damage for Selangor
Selangor were on top for most of the first half and went ahead in the 11th minute through a Moraes header. He made it 2-0 early in the second half.
Penang captain Stefano Brundo pulled one back in the 69th minute. He was left unmarked to finish a team-mate's pass. Selangor kept control after that, though, and Zikri Khalili scored a third late on to settle the game. Selangor were without winger Faisal Halim, who missed the game through injury, according to local reports.
Coach Kim Pan-gon told reporters he was proud of the players and the supporters. Penang coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail said his team could not match Selangor in the first half and spent the opening 45 minutes under pressure. He felt his half-time changes made the second half more even. He also said some poor decisions from his players came down to a lack of experience.
Title race: two clear at the top
JDT have 15 points from five matches, scoring 25 goals without conceding, so the champions are well ahead on goal difference. Selangor's form under Kim means they are keeping pace for now. JDT can move three points clear when they visit Terengganu on Sunday, 18 October.
Kuching City went into Sunday third on 12 points, with a trip to DPMM to come.
Melaka snatch late win over KL City
At the Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong, Melaka beat Kuala Lumpur City 3-2 in the most dramatic game of the day. KL City went ahead through Fareed Sadat in the 12th minute. Christian de Souza Andre equalised before half-time, and Kpah Sean Sherman put Melaka 2-1 up in the 53rd minute.
KL City drew level in the 76th minute through an own goal by Muhammad Syahir Ab Rashid. Melaka still had time to win it, and R. Ruventhiran scored the winner in the 86th minute.
Points shared in Paroi
At the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Sabah went ahead in first-half stoppage time through Gonzalo Ignacio Di Renzo. Negeri Sembilan equalised from the penalty spot in the 67th minute through Jovan Motika, and the game finished 1-1.
The round finishes on Sunday with two more games: DPMM v Kuching City and Terengganu v JDT. The league then breaks until the next round, which starts on 30 October. Selangor's next league game is away to Immigration FC on 31 October.
