Zhang Boheng Edged Olympic Champion Shinnosuke Oka to Retain Asian Games Men's All-Around Gymnastics Title

The Chinese gymnast scored eighty-five point zero six five to finish ahead of Japan's Oka and Daiki Hashimoto after lowering his horizontal bar difficulty to limit the risk of errors.

China's Zhang Boheng retained the men's artistic gymnastics all-around title at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on 21 September 2026, beating two Japanese Olympic champions at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium Rainbow Hall.

Zhang scored 85.065 points to win gold ahead of Shinnosuke Oka, the Paris 2024 Olympic all-around champion, on 84.698. Daiki Hashimoto, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, took bronze with 83.865, while China's Sun Wei finished fourth on 83.298.

Oka led after the parallel bars rotation, but Zhang chose to lower the difficulty of his final horizontal bar routine after seeing his rivals' scores. "After they finished, my coach told me that I could do 5.8. At that point, we unanimously decided to go with the 5.8 difficulty," Zhang said, according to the Global Times.

The 26-year-old also revealed he had been managing a muscle injury and planned to complete the competition before seeking treatment.

The session also served as qualification for the men's team final, with China, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore advancing. The team finals were scheduled for Wednesday 23 September, with individual apparatus finals to follow later in the Games.
