Aryna Sabalenka Has Won Nineteen US Open Matches in a Row and Is One Victory From a Third Straight Title
Aryna Sabalenka beat Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 to reach the US Open final, where she can become the first woman since Serena Williams to win three in a row.
Aryna Sabalenka has not lost a match at the US Open since the 2023 final. On 10 September in New York she extended that run to 19 consecutive wins by beating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the women's semi-finals.
The top seed hit 29 winners to Pegula's 12, saved the only break point she faced and broke the American twice in the second set.
Sabalenka, the champion in 2024 and 2025, will play in the final on 12 September. Victory would make her the first player to win three consecutive US Open women's singles titles since Serena Williams won in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The semi-final comes during a week in which Sabalenka is losing the world number one ranking she has held for 99 consecutive weeks. Elena Rybakina secured the top spot by reaching the semi-finals and will replace her in the rankings next week. Sabalenka has said she would be comfortable giving up the ranking if she wins another title.
Her opponent will be Rybakina, the second seed, who came from a set down later on 10 September to beat Coco Gauff 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, setting up a final between the top two seeds. In the men's draw, Ben Shelton plays Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev meets Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals on 11 September, with the men's final on 13 September.
