MPL Malaysia Season 18: Selangor Red Giants top the table as the playoff race heads for Stadium Juara

SRG lead MPL MY S18 at 9-2 after six weeks. The playoffs at Stadium Juara from 28 Oct to 1 Nov also decide Malaysia's two M8 slots.

The regular season of MPL Malaysia Season 18 is paused until 8 October. The table after six weeks looks familiar: Selangor Red Giants (SRG) are top, and the chasing pack is still close behind them.

The standings after Week 6

Liquipedia's regular-season table after the 18–20 September matches:

  1. Selangor Red Giants – 9-2 in matches (20-6 in games), 9 points
  2. Team Rey – 8-3 (17-9), 8 points
  3. Team Vamos – 7-3 (15-11), 7 points
  4. Invictus Gaming – 6-4 (13-11), 6 points
  5. Bigetron MY by VIT – 5-6 (14-15), 5 points
  6. Team Flash – 4-6 (11-12), 4 points
  7. RRQ Tora – 2-9 (9-19), 2 points
  8. AC Esports – 1-9 (3-19), 1 point

The regular season is a double round robin of best-of-three series. A series win is worth one point and the top six go through to the playoffs. That puts RRQ Tora and AC Esports under pressure in the last two weeks, and it leaves little margin for Bigetron and Team Flash.

When play resumes on 8 October, Team Rey face Bigetron MY and SRG play Team Flash. On 9 October it's Team Vamos vs Invictus Gaming and AC Esports vs RRQ Tora. The regular season ends on 18 October.

Random map changes

Season 18 is also known for the Annual Map Change. Except for Week 6, which used the default map, each game gets a randomly chosen map modifier. The options include "Dangerous Grass", with thick bushes around mid and the Lord pit; "Broken Walls", which opens shortcuts; "Flying Cloud", where respawning heroes can hover; and "Expanding Rivers", which raises movement speed. Teams have to adjust their draft and rotations every game.

Playoffs at Stadium Juara, with M8 places at stake

The New Straits Times reports that the Season 18 Playoffs will be held at Stadium Juara from 28 October to 1 November, over five days. The MPL Malaysia Festival will run alongside, with food, entertainment and appearances from MLBB personalities. The finale also marks MLBB's 10th anniversary year.

The biggest prize is qualification. Two places at the M8 World Championship go to Malaysian teams from these playoffs. MOONTON has said the M8 Finals will be in Istanbul, Türkiye, in January 2027, the first M-series event held in Europe.

Can anyone stop SRG?

The NST notes that SRG go into the playoffs as five-time consecutive MPL Malaysia champions. In Season 17 they became the first team in the region to win five MPL titles in a row. A sixth title would add to that record.

Ahead of the season, MOONTON's Head of Market (Esports) Krystal Tan said: "The results from MSC at EWC showed that the competitive gap has closed and no team's dominance can be taken for granted." Six weeks in, SRG are still clear at the top, but Team Rey and Team Vamos are each only one or two points behind.

Fans who can't get to Stadium Juara can watch every match live on Tonton, Friday to Sunday. Regular-season games are played at the MPL MY Arena at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur.
