Lorcan Bergin Won the Five Nations Conventional Ploughing Test as Ninety One Thousand Attended Day Two in Offaly

Northern Ireland's Jack Wright took the reversible section, while Cork West's Ellen Nyhan won the Farmerette class on a busy Wednesday at Screggan.

Lorcan Bergin of the Republic of Ireland won the Five Nations Conventional class on 16 September 2026, the second day of the 95th National Ploughing Championships at Screggan, near Tullamore in County Offaly. The National Ploughing Association said 91,000 people attended on Wednesday, up from 77,000 on the opening day.

The two-day international test finished with Bergin on 465 points, according to the official results, ahead of Wales's James George on 420 and England's Stuart Vickers on 419. Kieran O'Neil of Northern Ireland was fourth on 320. In the Five Nations Reversible class, Northern Ireland's Jack Wright won with 440 points from Euron Owen Griffith of Wales on 412 and the Republic of Ireland's Gary Ireland on 409.

Ellen Nyhan of Cork West won the Farmerette Conventional Plough Class with 236 points, five clear of Kildare's Ailish Osborne, with Wexford's Katie Kehoe third on 226. Nyhan, 26, from Ballinspittle, told the Southern Star before the championships that she was defending the All-Ireland title she won last year and that the key was holding her nerve.

Elsewhere, J J Delaney of Cork East won the Senior Horse Plough Class with 83 points, ahead of Kerry's Maurice Trant on 80, while Donegal's Tamzin Friel won the National Novice Conventional Intermediate class.

The championships end on 17 September 2026, when the National Brown Bread Baking finals are also decided. NPA managing director Anna May McHugh said there had been a great atmosphere right across the site on Wednesday.
