Shopee Cup matchday one: Persib stun Port late, CAHN edge Lion City Sailors, Buriram held by Borneo

Persib scored three times after the 85th minute to win 3-1 at Port, while JDT top Group B on goal difference after an opening round full of late drama.

The opening round of the 2026/27 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup has been settled, and late goals were the theme of the week. Persib Bandung scored three times from the 86th minute onwards to win 3-1 away to Port FC, Công An Hà Nội (CAHN) beat Lion City Sailors 1-0 in Singapore, and holders Buriram United were held 0-0 at home by Borneo FC Samarinda. This round-up follows our earlier reports on Johor Darul Ta'zim's 6-0 win over PKR Svay Rieng and Kuching City's 2-2 draw with Tampines Rovers.

Persib's stoppage-time turnaround at Thammasat

The most dramatic result came on Thursday, 8 October at Thammasat Stadium, where Port looked set for three points after substitute Jude Soonsup-Bell converted a 66th-minute penalty. Kaka Mendes had been brought down by Ikwan Ali Tanamal to earn the spot-kick.

Persib then turned the game around. Mariano Peralta levelled in the 86th minute after being played through by Balša Sekulić, Berguinho curled in from the edge of the area in the first minute of stoppage time, and Luka Menalo added a diving header deep into eight added minutes. Menalo was named Shopee Star of the Match. Persib goalkeeper Teja Paku Alam had kept his side in it earlier with saves from Bruno and Erik Sviatchenko.

CAHN win in Singapore through Léo Artur

At Jalan Besar Stadium on the same night, Mano Pölking's CAHN beat Mark Jackson's Lion City Sailors with a goal two minutes into first-half stoppage time. Brayan Perea carried the ball forward and set up Léo Artur with a backheel for a close-range finish.

The Sailors had chances to respond. Antonio Mance shot over from distance, goalkeeper Victor Aznar made several saves to keep his side in the match, and Abdul Rasaq Akeem missed a late opportunity in added time. The Sailors now face a quick turnaround with a Singapore Premier League match against the Young Lions on Sunday.

Group A: three draws on opening night

Group A began on Wednesday, 7 October, and none of its three matches produced a winner. Buriram United, the defending champions, were held 0-0 by Indonesia's Borneo FC Samarinda and finished with 10 men after Narubadin Weerawatnodom was sent off late on for a second yellow card.

Ratchaburi needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Scott Allardice, scored from a corner, to draw 1-1 with Ho Chi Minh City Police FC, who had gone ahead three minutes after half-time through Mạnh Đức Olaha. In Kuching, Malaysia's Kuching City twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Tampines Rovers, with Gabriel Peres scoring both goals.

Where the Malaysian clubs stand

Each group has seven teams, and one club in each group sat out the opening round: Manila Digger in Group A and Shan United in Group B.

In Group B, JDT, Persib and CAHN all have three points, with JDT top on goal difference after their six-goal win. Lion City Sailors, Port and Svay Rieng have yet to score a point. In Group A, all six teams that have played so far have one point each, which leaves Kuching City level with the holders after one match.
