Michael Brennan wins Baycurrent Classic by one shot as Schauffele's late double bogey ends title defence
Michael Brennan, 24, closed with a 68 at Yokohama to win by one from Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell for his third PGA Tour title and US$1.44 million.
Michael Brennan won the Baycurrent Classic at Yokohama Country Club on Sunday, 11 October, closing with a three-under 68 for a 16-under total of 268. The 24-year-old American finished one shot ahead of Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell to claim his third PGA Tour title. Defending champion Xander Schauffele was in contention until a double bogey on the final hole.
Brennan steadies himself after the turn
Brennan's round had a wobble early on the back nine when he bogeyed the 10th. He answered straight away with birdies at the 11th and 12th, then parred his last six holes to finish.
The most important of those pars came on the par-three 16th. His long bunker shot finished about a foot from the hole, and he saved his par, a key moment in a tight finish.
The win, worth US$1.44 million from the US$8 million purse, came in only his 33rd PGA Tour start. It is his second win of the season after the Wyndham Championship in August. His first came at the Bank of Utah Championship in 2025. Brennan played his college golf at Wake Forest.
Bridgeman and Mitchell just miss out
Bridgeman shot 69 and had two chances to force a playoff late on. He missed a birdie putt from about five feet on the 17th, and his 55-foot birdie attempt on the 18th finished four feet short.
Mitchell had the best spell of the day for a while. He played a five-hole stretch in five under, with three birdies and an eagle, and went two shots clear. He then played his last 10 holes in two over for a 68. Bridgeman and Mitchell tied for second at 15 under and earned US$704,000 each.
Schauffele's defence ends on the 18th
Schauffele won this event in 2025 and shot a final-round 67 to give himself a chance of defending the title. He stood on the 18th tee one shot behind, but drove into the trees and made a double bogey. He finished tied for fourth at 13 under with Brian Harman, Stephan Jaeger, Ryan Gerard and England's Jordan Smith.
How the Asian players fared
