Mobile Legends turns 10: Moonton celebrates with free meals, charity work and big MPL playoffs

Moonton is marking 10 years of MLBB with fan events and a disaster-relief partnership in the Philippines. Malaysia's MPL playoffs at Stadium Juara come next.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is 10 years old. Moonton is marking the anniversary with a campaign aimed at the communities that made the game Southeast Asia's biggest mobile esport. In the Philippines, the celebrations included free meals for fans and a formal disaster-relief partnership. In Malaysia, the MPL playoffs at Stadium Juara are the next big event.

"ALL IN" for the anniversary

Moonton has spent the past month running a global anniversary campaign called "ALL IN", the Philippine Star reported on 22 October. The main Philippine celebration was held at Market! Market! in Bonifacio Global City.

The campaign included #LibreNiMLBB, which gave free meals to fans. It is based on the Filipino custom of treating friends and family on your birthday. A roving anniversary truck also visited parts of Metro Manila, bringing activities and appearances to fans who could not attend the main event.

According to Moonton, MLBB has been installed more than 1.5 billion times worldwide and has about 110 million monthly active users.

A disaster-relief partnership

The most lasting part of the campaign is a formal partnership with the GMA Kapuso Foundation to support future disaster-relief operations. Moonton has expanded its charity work as part of the anniversary.

Moonton's local marketing team told the Philippine Star that the game is closely tied to everyday life in the country. Marketing lead Alyssa Mae Calicdan said: "It's really part of our culture." The team also described how it has changed its approach over the years. It moved from livestreams in the pandemic years to music videos and short dramas, and it now focuses on events where fans can attend in person.

Malaysia's turn: MPL MY playoffs at Stadium Juara

Malaysia's biggest MLBB event of the anniversary year starts next week. The MPL Malaysia Season 18 playoffs run from 28 October to 1 November at Stadium Juara in Kuala Lumpur, and the CelcomDigi Dream Stage Grand Final is on 1 November. Moonton says Grand Final tickets sold out within an hour of going on sale, and it has warned fans not to buy from unauthorised resellers.

The organisers have also planned events around the matches. Pesta Juara is a night-market-style festival at the venue, and Mamak Juara watch parties will be held in several states. The playoff winners get one of Malaysia's two direct places at the M8 World Championship, which will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, in January 2027.

The esports scene at 10

MLBB's 10th year also brings the biggest change to its esports structure in years. Moonton has added a new MLBB Championship Tour Southeast Asia (MCT SEA), which gives grassroots MDL champions from Indonesia and the Philippines, and the MAL MY Season 6 winner, a route towards M8. Professional leagues in Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia remain the main path to the world championship, and the Philippine playoffs are being played this week at PhilSports Arena.
