Gen.G vs LYON: Worlds 2026 quarter-final rematch at 6am Thursday Malaysia time, with IG waiting in semis

Unbeaten LCK top seed Gen.G face LYON, North America's last team, in the second Worlds 2026 quarter-final at 6am MYT on Thursday 5 November.

The second quarter-final of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship is a rematch. LCK first seed Gen.G, unbeaten at the tournament, play LYON, the last team left from North America. The best-of-five starts at 6am on Thursday, 5 November, Malaysia time (4pm Wednesday in Allen, Texas). The winner goes straight into a semi-final against Invictus Gaming, who beat Top Esports 3-1 in the opening quarter-final on Wednesday morning.

Kick-off time and venue

The quarter-final is at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, near Dallas, where the Swiss Stage was also held. Riot schedules every quarter-final and semi-final for 22:00 UTC. That is 6am in Malaysia and Singapore and 7am in Korea. Here are the remaining quarter-finals in Malaysia time:

  • Thursday, 5 Nov, 6am: Gen.G v LYON
  • Friday, 6 Nov, 6am: Dplus KIA v Bilibili Gaming
  • Saturday, 7 Nov, 6am: T1 v Karmine Corp

The knockout stage uses Fearless Draft, so a champion picked earlier in a series cannot be picked again in that series. In a long series, that tests how deep each team's champion pool goes.

Gen.G: perfect so far

Gen.G's lineup is Kiin, Canyon, Chovy, Ruler and Duro. They went 3-0 in the Swiss Stage, including a first-round win over Invictus Gaming. Their only dropped game came against LYON. In the Round 3 meeting LYON took the first game, and Gen.G came back to win the series 2-1. Sports Kyunghyang notes this is the teams' third meeting of 2026 and that Gen.G have won both earlier ones.

There is history on the line too. Sports Kyunghyang points out that Gen.G have not reached a Worlds final since the organisation changed its name from Samsung Galaxy in 2018. Winning here would leave them one series away from ending that run.

LYON: North America's last hope

LYON qualified as the LCS's second seed with Dhokla, Inspired, Saint, Berserker and Isles. Their Swiss Stage path went to the final round. They opened with wins over Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp, then lost to Gen.G and to Invictus Gaming (2-1). That left them in a deciding series against Brazil's LOS. According to GosuGamers, LOS won Game 1 in 34 minutes. LYON then came back from a gold deficit to win a 47-minute Game 2 and closed out Game 3 in 36 minutes to finish 3-2.

That win kept the LCS alive in the knockouts and ended LOS's hopes of giving the CBLOL its first knockout-stage team. HUPU's community ratings for the series put Polish jungler Inspired top for LYON. Their Round 2 win over Karmine Corp, another quarter-finalist, shows they can beat strong teams.

What's at stake

The winner gets a semi-final against Invictus Gaming, whose 2018 world champions TheShy and Rookie are still chasing a second title. The semi-finals are on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 November at 6am MYT, also in Allen. The final is at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, at 3am on Sunday 15 November, Malaysia time. Going by GosuGamers' figures for the IG v TES result, the loser leaves in 5th-8th place with US$300,000.
