Chelsea Play Liverpool and Tottenham Play Arsenal on the Same Saturday of the Fourth Matchweek
Ten Premier League fixtures are listed for Saturday, including two of the division's biggest and a Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park.
The Premier League fixture list has all ten matches of the fourth matchweek down for Saturday the fifth, which almost never survives contact with television, but two of them are worth the schedule either way.
Chelsea play Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham play Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Putting both on one afternoon is the sort of thing that happens when a fixture computer is run without sentiment, and it means one of them will end up moved.
Newcastle play Sunderland at St James' Park, which is the fixture the north-east has spent most of the last decade without. Brentford play Manchester City, Aston Villa play Crystal Palace, Everton play Fulham, Nottingham Forest play Brighton, Leeds play Ipswich, Manchester United play Coventry, and Bournemouth play Hull.
The default kick-off for a Premier League Saturday is three o'clock, which exists mainly as the time from which broadcasters move things. The three o'clock blackout on live domestic broadcast still applies, so the matches that stay at three are the ones nobody in Britain can watch.
Coventry and Hull are the names that stand out on a Premier League team sheet. Coventry were last in the top flight in 2001 and spent a season in the fourth tier in between. Hull have gone up and down repeatedly and have never lasted more than three consecutive seasons in the division.
Four matches in is early enough that the table means very little and late enough that people have started reading it anyway.
