Japan Won Both Asian Games Soft Tennis Team Golds in Nagoya as Chinese Taipei Took Two Silvers

Twenty two year old Chiang Min-yu won Chinese Taipei's only rubber of the finals, while retiring veteran Lo Shu-ting said she had no regrets.

Japan won both soft tennis team gold medals at the Asian Games on 20 September 2026, beating Chinese Taipei 2-0 in the men's final and 2-1 in the women's final at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya.

The men's final lasted only 54 minutes. Brothers Chen Po-yi and Chen Yu-hsun lost the opening doubles 5-0 and Chang Yu-sung was beaten 4-1 in the singles, repeating Japan's win over Chinese Taipei in the men's final at the Hangzhou Games in 2023, Focus Taiwan reported.

The women's final was closer. Twenty two year old newcomer Chiang Min-yu won her singles 4-1 against Ayaka Iwakura for Chinese Taipei's only point, and the silver matched the team's best Asian Games result in the event. Lo Shu-ting, who plans to retire after the Games, said the team had done great and that she had no regrets in her career.

Soft tennis, played with a light rubber ball, was born in Japan in the Meiji period. According to the Japanese Olympic Committee, Japan won four of the five golds on offer in Hangzhou.

Three more soft tennis titles are still to be decided in Nagoya, with mixed doubles on 21 September and the men's and women's singles on 22 and 23 September.
