Alexander Zverev beat Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in the final of the United States Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium on 13 September 2026.

The German top seed needed about three hours to win the 146th edition of the tournament, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows from 30 August. It was his second Grand Slam title of 2026 after the French Open, and he had also reached the Wimbledon final.

Shelton, seeded eighth, made eleven unforced errors in the first set to Zverev's three and lost the second-set tie-break 7-2 before taking the third. He is the first Black American man to reach a United States Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. The American men's Grand Slam singles drought now stands at 23 years, since Andy Roddick won in 2003. Zverev has beaten Shelton in all six of their meetings.

The tournament carried a record purse of 108 million US dollars, up twenty per cent on 2025, with 5.5 million dollars for the singles champion and 2.8 million for the runner-up. Elena Rybakina won the women's title. The defending champions Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka both failed to retain their titles.
