Lennart Jasch wins 2026 Tour de Langkawi as LTdL 2027 is locked in for 3-10 October
Germany's Lennart Jasch took the overall and mountains titles at LTdL 2026, Malucelli won in Putrajaya, and organisers have set the 2027 dates.
Germany's Lennart Jasch of Tudor Pro Cycling is the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi champion. The 25-year-old held the yellow jersey all the way to Putrajaya on Sunday 4 October, finishing the 30th edition of Malaysia's flagship stage race 26 seconds clear of Spain's Abel Balderstone of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA.
Italian sprinter Matteo Malucelli of XDS Astana won the 188.3km final stage into the administrative capital, his third stage win of the week. A day later, organisers confirmed that the 31st edition will run from 3 to 10 October 2027, squeezed between the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games, both of which Malaysia hosts next year.
How Jasch won it
The eight-stage race covered 1,258.5km down Malaysia's west coast, from Shah Alam to Putrajaya. Jasch took control on stage 2, which finished on Gunung Jerai in Kedah, a category 1 climb used for the first time this year. He then defended through a demanding middle week that included back-to-back high-category summit finishes at Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands, a pairing last seen at the race in 2001 and 2011.
His final time was 28 hours 57 minutes 2 seconds. Balderstone was second and his Caja Rural team-mate Jan Castellon finished third, 42 seconds down, which also helped the Spanish squad win the best team classification.
Jasch added the King of the Mountains title with 45 points, ahead of Petr Rikunov on 41 and Castellon on 26. Jasch said afterwards that his team had brought him to Malaysia to test him as a general classification leader, and the result answered that question.
Malucelli rules the sprints
Malucelli has now won nine LTdL stages over the past three editions. His win in Putrajaya, ahead of Canada's Riley Pickrell (Modern Adventure) and Christiaan van Rees (Picnic PostNL), secured the blue points jersey with 64 points.
Japan's Yuhi Todome of Aisan Racing Team won the white jersey for best Asian rider.
Where the Malaysians finished
The local riders found the going hard against WorldTour and ProTeam opposition. Tsen Ren Bao of St George Continental Cycling Team was the best-placed Malaysian, 25th overall and 11 minutes 5 seconds behind Jasch. Twenty teams started this year: two WorldTeams, eight ProTeams, nine Continental teams and one national team.
For Malaysian teams, the race remains the one chance each year to race against WorldTour and ProTeam squads on home roads, and the gap to the leaders shows how much ground is still to make up.
LTdL 2027: earlier planning, possible east coast return
LTdL chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal said the 2027 dates are now on the UCI calendar. The race will start days after the SEA Games closes (18 to 29 September) and finish a week before the ASEAN Para Games opens (17 to 23 October).
The organisers are considering a return to east coast states such as Kelantan and Terengganu, in line with the race's habit of switching between the two coasts. Holding the whole race in Sabah and Sarawak is also an option, partly to keep logistics costs down. They want to keep the Gunung Jerai climb, subject to ministerial approval, and to sign sponsors earlier so they can attract more WorldTeam squads.
