PARI Universe Dota 2: Spirit and Yandex finish unbeaten as BetBoom, LEGION and Astra face tiebreaker

The group stage of PARI Universe, the US$250,000 online Dota 2 event run by FISSURE, finished on Monday with Team Spirit and Team Yandex the only unbeaten sides. Spirit beat fellow group leaders PARIVISION 2-1 to top Group B, Yandex came through a three-game series against Team Liquid to finish first in Group A, and GamerLegion beat OG to secure second place. One question is still open: BetBoom Team, LEGION and Astra Invicta all finished Group B on 1-3, so a tiebreaker on Tuesday 27 October will decide which of them misses out on the playoffs.

Spirit hand PARIVISION first defeat

Both teams came into the final day with 3-0 records and no maps dropped, so first place in Group B was on the line. The series went the distance, and Spirit won the deciding game in around 32 minutes. Hotspawn noted that Spirit's Satanic and PARIVISION's Yatoro rotated through different carry heroes across the three games, as both drafts kept changing shape.

PARIVISION, who won the Dota 2 title at the Esports World Cup in July, still advance comfortably in second place on 3-1.

Yandex and GamerLegion seal Group A

Team Yandex won the first game against Team Liquid easily, but Liquid recovered from a poor laning phase to take the second in 38 minutes. Yandex then closed out the decider in 28 minutes to finish the group 4-0. The series was the first official meeting between Yandex's ATF and Liquid's new signing Malr1ne, according to Hotspawn.

GamerLegion also needed three games against OG. They lost the opener, in which Topson's Silencer made a big impact, before winning the next two to finish 3-1. OG end on 2-2, Liquid on 1-3, and 1w Team are eliminated without a series win.

Three-way tiebreaker in Group B

BetBoom Team picked up their first series win of the event on Monday by beating LEGION, which pulled them level with LEGION and Astra Invicta on 1-3. As only the bottom team in each group is eliminated, the three sides play best-of-one matches against each other on Tuesday until there is a clear last-placed team. That team joins 1w Team on the way out, and the other two complete the playoff field.

Group stage standings

• Group A: Team Yandex 4-0, GamerLegion 3-1, OG 2-2, Team Liquid 1-3, 1w Team 0-4 (eliminated)
• Group B: Team Spirit 4-0, PARIVISION 3-1, then BetBoom Team, LEGION and Astra Invicta 1-3 (tiebreaker)

Playoff format and prize money

Eight teams reach the double-elimination playoffs, which run from 28 October to 1 November. Every playoff series is a best-of-three except the best-of-five grand final. The champions take US$125,000 of the US$250,000 prize pool, with US$50,000 for second place and US$30,000 for third. The bracket will be confirmed once Tuesday's tiebreaker is complete.

The playoff stage will also show where these teams stand after the post-International roster shuffle, with several squads, including Team Liquid and GamerLegion, using new signings at this event.
