Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws From Cincinnati Open With Lingering Wrist Injury

Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of next week's Cincinnati Open as he continues to battle a wrist injury that has kept him off the tour since April. The world number two last competed at the Barcelona Open, missing both Wimbledon and the defence of his French Open title in the process.

Alcaraz had been expected to use the Ohio event, which begins on 11 August, as part of his build-up to defending his US Open crown later this month. Tournament organizers confirmed his withdrawal, citing "an ongoing wrist injury" that continues to prevent the 23-year-old Spaniard from returning to competitive action.

Tournament director Bob Moran wished Alcaraz a swift recovery, saying organizers were looking forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in future editions. Alcaraz won the event in 2025, and his absence this year leaves a notable gap at the top of the draw just weeks before the US Open gets underway on 30 August.
