Ryan Gal of the Netherlands Won the Under Twenty Three Men's Time Trial at the Road World Championships in Montreal
Gal, who rides for the continental team Metec-SOLARWATT, beat Italy's Nicolas Milesi by seven seconds, while Spain's Hector Alvarez took bronze.
Ryan Gal of the Netherlands won the under-23 men's individual time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada, on 21 September 2026, covering the 31.3-kilometre course in 37 minutes 26 seconds.
Italy's Nicolas Milesi took silver, seven seconds behind, and Spain's Héctor Álvarez won bronze, 11 seconds down, the first Spanish medal in the under-23 time trial championships. Ashlin Barry, 18, of the United States was fourth in 37:59, with Denmark's Mads Landbo fifth.
Gal, 21, averaged more than 50kph and was fastest at all three time checks when he set his time, bettering Cyprus rider Bogdan Zabelinskiy's leading mark of 38:18 by 51 seconds. Álvarez, Milesi and Landbo were all ahead of him at the halfway check but lost ground over the final section, which finished on a 400-metre climb at 6.1 per cent.
Gal races for the continental team Metec-SOLARWATT p/b Mantel. A rule introduced last year makes riders with professional contracts ineligible for the under-23 category, although it does not apply to riders on WorldTour or ProTeam development squads.
Among the 67 starters, Australian pre-race favourite Cameron Rogers lost his chance with a dropped chain before the first time check.
The championships continued on 22 September with the junior time trials and the mixed team relay, ahead of the elite road races on 27 September.
