Karen Khachanov went the distance with the 14th seed Learner Tien and won 7-5, 4-6, 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-4.
Botic van de Zandschulp lost the first two sets to Arthur Gea and came back to win 3-6, 6-7(0), 7-6(7), 7-6(3), 6-4.
The tournament is paying a record 108 million dollars in total player compensation, which the USTA calls the largest package in the history of the sport. Each singles champion takes 5.5 million.
