A Mongolian Team Ranked One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Knocked Out The MongolZ and Astralis in Suzhou Before G2 Ended the Run
Mongolian side 5star eliminated The MongolZ and Astralis at FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou before a 2-0 defeat by G2 ended their run.
Mongolian side 5star were eliminated from FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou on 10 September after a 2-0 defeat by G2, ending a lower-bracket run in which they removed two far higher-ranked opponents.
5star, ranked 127th in the world by HLTV, beat compatriots The MongolZ 2-0 on 9 September, winning Inferno 13-9 and Nuke 13-11. HLTV noted that The MongolZ, ranked 14th, had been the clear number one team in Mongolia for more than three years. Tengis "rate" Boldbaatar led 5star in that series with a 1.68 rating. The defeat left The MongolZ in joint-last place after an earlier overtime loss to MIBR.
On 10 September 5star eliminated 12th-ranked Astralis, taking Inferno 13-10, losing Ancient 5-13 and winning the deciding map, Cache, 13-11 after trailing 11-9.
The run ended later the same day. G2 won Inferno 13-9 and Ancient 13-4, with Slovak rifler Matúš "MATYS" Šimko finishing the series with a 1.63 rating. Alliance also secured a playoff place by beating magic 2-0.
The 5star lineup is Uuganbayar "NEUZ" Nyam-Otgon, Tengis "rate" Boldbaatar, Gerelt-Od "clouden" Jargal, Ariunjargal "ariucle" Yadam and Dulguun "hoolig4n" Batsaikhan.
FISSURE Playground 3 runs from 8 to 13 September at the SND Cultural and Sports Centre and carries a US$1,000,000 prize pool, with US$300,000 for the winner. Legacy and BETBOOM have byes into the semi-finals after winning their upper-bracket finals on 10 September. The quarter-finals on 11 September are MIBR against Alliance and FURIA against G2, the semi-finals follow on 12 September and the best-of-five grand final is on 13 September.
